What anti depressants help with ms ?

I recently read a book on deprsstion and ms . My anti deprssant no longer works( cymbalta) I can't quit taking it completely because I an in horrible pain if I do . I'm down to 30 mg a day rather than 90mg a day .

But I don't know if I can take other anti deprssants while still taking cymbalta . Something will also have to deal with pain issuses . I'm so depressed I can't hardly stand it and now I must walk with a cane and still no dx .

I also have no insurance I wonder if thats part of the hold up . Thanks in advancefor any resposes ,Tammy

I take Lexapro and it seems to help. I also take Wellbutrin (the generic form of it). I know that they say not to mix the two, but my doctor prescribed me both of them together, and I researched them, and made the choice to take them both. I hope that helps you. I also take gabapentin for the nerve pain.

I don't know if you're seeing a psychotherapist, but I found that incredibly helpful for dealing with depression. It's often possible to find therapists who have good sliding scales or community organizations that offer therapy for very low prices, if you can't afford to pay for it.

It doesn't help with the physical pain, but it helps a lot in dealing with the emotional struggle to accept my disability, and to cope with the uncertainty of not knowing exactly what's wrong with me.

My therapist also helps me to plan for doctor's visits, and to figure out how to ask people I know for support, and to think of ways to keep my spirits up on days when I can't be physically active or when my cognitive abilities are less than optimal.
Accepting reality is not the same as wanting to have a problem. It means accepting something that will be happening whether I want it or not.

I would encourage you to see a psychiatrist and explain your concerns and your ms depression to him. Depression is a mental health issue and you need a specialist. Going to a psychiatric doc made all the difference in the world to me. With my GP it was just another thing he was good at..but not great at.

There are many antidepressants out there and what works for one does not necessarily work for another person.

I went through 4 anti depressants before I found 1 that would work. Now, thankfully I am no longer needing it.

Amitriptiline is a good one for pain relief. As its a trycyclic and not an SSRI, your doc may be able to add it to your current treatment.
