    Can sleepiness be a flare?

I've been so sleepy lately, which is unusual for me. On weekends, I've been sleeping sometimes 12 hours at night and then taking 3 hour naps during the day. All I want to do is sleep! (And when I do sleep, I seem to be dreaming the entire time.)

I don't remember ever being this sleepy, even with the schedule I'm currently working. I thought it was due to that, but I couldn't still be that tired from working 28-hours in two days when I've rested for the last three days and not gone anywhere or done anything. I'm not taking any new meds or anything that could be making me this sleepy.

Could this be an exacerbation? I usually have one about this time of year (September, October, or November) when the weather changes, but usually they involve other symptoms, like increased muscle spasms, the "hug", buzzing, nerve pain, burning pain, etc. I've never had just sleepiness, have you? (I have an MRI scheduled for this coming Friday. It'll be my last one if there are no changes. I'm done with trying to figure out what this is.)
Joy is not the absence of suffering. It is the presence of God.
Cut aspartame from my diet in 2012 and my symptoms have slowly disappeared. Interesting!
Alpha Lipoic Acid (200 mg) + Acetyl L-carnitine (1,000 mg) = No more fatigue for me!

Hmm. I've had serious MS fatigue the past two weeks but I also seem to be experiencing a relapse so I figured it was part of that. Since fatigue is a common MS symptom I would think it could be a flare, unless there's something else going on with you health-wise right now that could be causing it.
2001: 1st 2 relapses, "probable MS." 2007: 3rd relapse. Dx of RRMS confirmed by MS specialist. Started Cpx. (Off Cpx Feb 08-Mar 09 to start a family; twins!) Dec '09: Started Beta. Oct '13: Started Tecfidera. May '15: Considering Gilenya.

Hi Lisa, have you been sick recently? I don't have a schedule nearly as intense as yours and slept through any spare time (and missed some classes) for a good week. I caught a respiratory bug and have been wiped out ever since. Things are finally starting to perk up - but it's been almost two weeks. And I do get the chance to rest during the day, and sleep late sometimes, or just go back to bed for hours after my son goes to school.

My guess would be, you probably need the extra rest right now. Especially if you've caught any of the circulating nasties.
I do not have MS. I have Whatchamacallit; and all of the symptoms are mirages.
