Anyone on disability for fatigue and depression

My two biggest struggles at this point are the fatigue and depression. I am in short term disability at the moment, but neither my neuro or my psych see me getting much better than I am anytime soon.

I have problems with my hands and legs/feet, but I can still walk.

Just wondering if anyone else is in same boat. It just feels strange to say I can't work because I'm too tired:-(

    I understand

where you're coming from! I still work (for now), because I really wonder if NOT working is good for the fatigue and depression! It sounds odd, I know, but when I'm not working (weekends, holidays), I feel worse! I generally have more stiffness and pain just from not moving enough. I'm afraid I would become chair-ridden if I didn't work.

Luckily, my boss is understanding, and allows me to flex time on days when I just can't get out of bed and to work on time. I do notice that is getting worse, so the day might be coming in the next year or two that I just can't do it anymore. But once I'm up and going, I function relatively OK since my job is basically sitting at a computer all day.

I can manage to keep the fatigue at bay during the day, but once 5 o'clock comes, I'm done for and hate it when I have to do something after work. I go to my chair and sit there most of the evening except for helping DH with dishes/dinner.

after 10 years, the ms caused me to retire. i did battle fatigue and depression both, but they were only pieces of the puzzle. mobility issues were the biggest factor, although everything (symptom wise) completed the picture (of why i couldn`t continue).

mgoerke- I am in the exact same boat. I am recently dx'ed and have mostly fatigue, depression, and some spasticity. Whereas it does not effect my ability to do my job it sure can make it more stressful. I feel beat up and exhausted by the end of a shift.

I am just now looking into my options in regards to filing disability. I don't want to quit working yet, and I believe/hope it will be some time before things get really complicated. I fear that not working will be worse than working. I tend to sit around and focus on the bad stuff if I'm allowed to.

Work has been pretty understanding and would allow me more assistance if I asked for it, but right now I'm trying the best i can to do the same amount of work before. There is a chance that I'll be getting a 'promotion' that would have me sitting down more and not dealing with as many 'unhappy' customers.

        Blessings to all.

          Been There!

I was diagnosed with MS in 1992, but by 1994 was unable to continue working due to severe fatigue and issues with my legs, like wierd sensations, weakness, heaviness, etc. Fatigue is the #1 reason for total disability among people with MS. The Social Security Administration has very specific guidelines when it comes to fatigue, so when it comes time to apply, make sure your doctor knows what they are and can certify that you meet them the first time 'round. Having to reapply because the doctor didn't use just the right term or something silly like that is a real pain.

          Hope this helps you.

Interesting! I have been wondering about this. I'm currently a SAHM but the fatigue I've been dealing with recently has been severe enough that I can't imagine working a full-time job like this.

              Yes I am

And this depression and fatigue (or just the MS is) is starting to affect my cognitive function. It showed on my neuropsych test.

so I believe that will help with my disability case, lawyer put in a motion to decide my case by records alone for the judge.
God Bless and have a good day, Mary

                Hi dragosign64:

Do you know where I can find these guidelines?

                Thanks!

OH MAN....I can relate so well to your post. In the morning my poor body is SO STIFF.. my poor neck/shoulder/abdomen.. well actually all over. A shower helps very little.

Sitting at work all day takes its toll. By the time I get off work, I am as stiff as a board.. my poor right leg is awful. Like you, I hate when I have to do something after work..some days its a challenge. I want to work because if not, what would I do.. sit most of the day..which I would.

I had a week off work...it was soooo nice being off. I did get a few important things done but I still sat and lay around most of the time.. but I did get out the house a few times during the day.

But I am going to look into getting disability..working is becoming a bit much.

                    Ms. Jay
