I have those chest pains too! I actually believe it IS MS and am relieved to know most of you have had a clean "heart exam." MS, what DOESN"T it do? (We need alike button)!

I went to an "urgent care" clinic yesterday with chest pain. I've had it once before, though it was much worse this time. Started as a pressure on the left side, and eventually was like a band squeezing my chest. All the tests were normal, and because of my history, they attributed it to the MS hug. I've got a chemical stress test ordered, just to be sure though. MS has caused a lot of symptoms, but this was by far the scariest! But it does help to know that others have gone through this too!

I had a few rides to the ER in the last few years for just this.
Keep in mind that before MS induced retirement, I worked in Trauma Critical Care.

On each occasion my SX mimicked a cardiac event.
        Neuro attributes it to "banding".
My fear is not that I went for nothing but that I won't when its real.

Finding this Thread was right on time!

I woke up this morning with the feeling of a bruised brest bone and what feels like sore muscles in my back to include my shoulders. I am not sure if this is what you are talking about but an earlier thread said it affected the breast bone too. Not sure if I should call the Neuro or wait it out. I also saw the cardiologis on Monday and she has ordered a stress test due to orthostatic hypotension.

Any thought would be greatly appreciated.

          Thanks

            Chest Pain and MS?

I just got home after spending 24 hours in the hospital.
I went to the ER after experiencing SUDDEN sharp, heavy pains in the center of my chest. I waited about an hour before I went to the ER to see if it improved. When I got there they did EKG, blood work, hooked me to monitors and gave me a GI coctail. Nothing was found to be wrong with my heart and the pain didn't lessen after the GI cocktail, but the ER doc wanted to admit me, monitor my heart and have an Echo done. Everything came back normal. Nothing was wrong with my heart and it didn't appear to be GI related.
The strange thing is, when I was released, I was given Rx's for Nitro and Malox and recommendation that I follow up with my GP.
Confusion!!! It's not my heart but I'm given Nitro and it isn't GI related but I'm given Malox. I don't know any more now than I did before I spent all the money to get NO answers and my GP won't have any answers for me either (I'm not going).
By the way I'm still having intermitent chest pains but refuse to tell my husband. What's the point in stressing him out again.
Any idea if this could be MS related? HUG?

I, also have had similar symptoms, several years ago and went to the emergency room. They gave me an ECHO
cardiogram, EKG, and was sent to my doctor for further tests. They also gave me some kind of stress test that stimulated me being on it to read mail.

I passed all of the tests and was told my heart was strong. The doctors agreed it must've been some kind of M.S
              episode. Sure could've fooled me.

I still have similar symptoms on and off but I have gone back to the doctor, heart disease runs in my family and it kind of scares me that someday it'll be the real thing, and all be too embarrassed to go back to the doctor.

I guess were all in the same boat, but I will have regular check ups with my doctor so that just in case it gets weak he'll catch it early.

It's good we have somewhere to go, right here, to let each other know where not all crazy.

I've had sorbing pains in my cheat bad enough to send me to the hospital.
Doctor in emergency had no idea what it was, sent me for an x-ray and then told me it was muscular.
Asked him if it might be MS hug - he gave me a blank look and said he'd never heard of that & said he'd prescribe muscle relaxants.
thank goodness they worked and I haven't been back.
Phoned the local MS clinic and they told me that I had gone to the wrong hospital to be treated for MS symptoms
                But yes scary and painful!

                  Chest Pain

I too, have had the MS related chest pain from the MS hug or spasticity. I want to tell you though when I was reading the first post re pounding heart...etc, my first thought was it sounds like a classic panic attack. We all have anxiety even if we don't consciously realize it, just with trying to deal with a chronic debilitating disease. Where I live, we have 24 hour phone lines to be able to call a nurse for free. If you don't feel comfortable enough to wait for your doc to call back, these RNs are usually er nurses and have halped me out tremendously by calming me down, asking the right (triage) questions and she knew it wasn't a heart attack. This saved me probably hundreds in er/ambulance/phys fees. Oh well, just giving a suggestion that has worked for me.

I have had chest pain as well for the past several years. For many years, I'd periodically experience an intense stabbing pain in the center of my chest. My cardiologist told me it was due to my mitral valve prolapse and suggested medication, but I didn't take him up on it at the time. I would just wait it out and it usually passed within 5 - 10 minutes. (BTW, turns out I don't have mitral valve prolapse)

It now happens more frequently and for a much longer duration. I don't freak out over sx, but it has gotten very annoying. Now I experience burning and sometimes squeezing pain. A hospital experience where I was given nitroglycerin finally prompted my cardiologist to send me for more detailed imaging, and I do have some coronary artery disease.

This still doesn't explain the pain, I was told by my new cardiologist patients are still asymptomatic at this stage. I do have a cardiac history and I'm glad this doctor is doing more testing to err on the side of caution.

My MS Specialist doesn't think it is from the MS. So, for now, It's still TBD.

                      Cannot take anymore

I have had bad chest pain for over three months. Was hospitalized for a week, cardiac tests normal, gi tests showed ulcer but in wrong place for my pain. Now on Nitro with no relief. I am not sure how much longer I can take living with this daily pain that ranges from a 5-8 every single day.

                      Would welcome any suggestions!
I may have MS but MS does not have me!
