    Changing from Betaseron to Tecfidera

After 20 years on injected Betaseron, after recently visiting my neurologist I plan to change over to oral Tecfidera. Have you done this, and what has your experience been?

    Hi mullence,

Two years ago, market researchers were suggesting that in 5 years over 50% of MS patients would be on oral medications. You are part of a growing trend to give up injections for more effective and easier to administer oral medications. For me, taking Tecfidera is similar to taking a multi-vitamin. I may have sporadic and fleeting flushing, but it seems like a small price to pay considering the benefits. Statistically Tecfidera is quite an improvement over Betaseron for controlling MS and the capsule form is so easy.

You are nearly in the same boat as PJ from this thread:

    A few thoughts:
    - You will never miss the injections.
    - You may feel better after being off the Betaseron if you had subtle perma-flu like symptoms.
    - It's common to start off having Tecfidera symptoms that lessen over time.
    - Considering you are accustomed to routinely stabbing yourself and dealing with all the injection-related issues Tecfidera may be an outright joy for you.

    I wish you well ...
