    Baclofen vs. Neurontin

I'm really confused and would like your opinion

Went to my general doctor yesterday with what turned out to be trigeminal neuralgia. She put me on Neurontin. It was dulling the pain. Still had it but I was only on it for 24 hours. It was at least tolerable.

She sent me to a neuro, whom I saw today. He said Neurontin was not the best line of defense and put me on Baclofen. I'm back to severe pain (although he said it wouldn't help immediately)

Isn't Neurontin a nerve pain medicine and Baclofen a muscle relaxer? Isn't trigeminal neuralgia nerve related? Is Baclofen better than neurontin? Just doesn't make sense. I'm tempted to stop the Baclofen and go back to the Neurontin.

Another reason: pharmacist says not to take Baclofen with Zanaflex. Zanaflex does a good job with my spasticity. Baclofen isn't touching spasticity.

ANY feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Comparing baclofen to Neurontin is like comparing apples to oranges. They don't do the same things at all.

As you said, Neurontin is for nerve pain, baclofen is for muscle spasticity. For trigeminal neuralgia, you need Neurontin or Lyrica.

You also need a new neurologist if he doesn't know the basic difference between the two meds and which one is indicated!

I hope you get some relief soon!

Cut aspartame from my diet in 2012 and my symptoms have slowly disappeared. Interesting!

My mother-in-law has this condition and is now using Tegretol (Carbamazepine). She switched from gabapentin, which wasn't working for her. Sorry you have this pain. I hope you find something that works!

        Thanks Guys!

switched back to the neurontin last night. He wants me to go to an MS specialist. Bikechik I hope your mother in law is getting some relief.

Off topic: Bikechik: What kind of bike? Motorcycle?
