    Gilenya & Psoriasis

I started taking Gilenya in October 2014. I have since developed Psoriasis. Just wondering if this has happened due to the Gilenya. Has anyone else taking Gilenya developed Psoriasis and what happened ? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I started G within a year of FDA approval. Hold-ups were neuro wanting to wait to see if any 'unexpected' things came out and then trying to find a place to 'babysit' me for the 1st dose.

I have had some thinning of my hair (good thing it has always been on the thick side ) and occasional headaches (but I had occasional headaches before G, so ???).

No other side effects. Sorry that I cant offer any other info.

I started taking vitamin B3 in the form of niacin amide and the hair loss has gotten significantly better. Also had some migraines- but found that the trigger was corn chips- donīt know if it was the high salt or the corn.

No psoriasis issues though. Try coconut oil on your skin to sooth it.

        Psoriasis and MS

I was in my 8th year of having MS. I had just changed from Tysabri to Tecfidera and Psoriasis started on my hands and feet.
My neuro stopped Tecfidera and started me on Gilenya.
The Psoriasis continued on Gilenya. It was the same as it was on Tecfidera.
I continued on Gilenya until my WBC count became to low.
Another trip to the ms specialist and he put me back on Tecfidera.
Its been 3 months on Tecfidera and my Psoriasis is the same.

Last night I was reading the Whals Protocol and came across a connection between eating dairy and gluten and psoriasis. Do you eat those?

Question for last poster- what was considered too low to remain on G?

Thank you to everyone who responded

Thank you for all the info. I really appreciate it. I actually saw my neuro yesterday who informed me that they have had a few cases now of people on Gilenya developing Psorasis. They have also had cases of people who had Psorasis clear up when on Gilenya. It seems to depend on the person and how their immune system reacts to change.

Anyway, it doesn't look like it will make a difference as I think I am about to get kicked off like pballer76. My lymphocyte count has been falling each month and this months was 2.00. If it continues the trend and falls below 2 next month that will be it. I will be disappointed as I have quite enjoyed the extra energy I have had being off Betaferon not to mention not having to inject. I had been on Betaferon for 17 years. Anyway maybe Tecfidera will be better for me as I have heard it is also used as a treatment for Psorasis.

I am a dairy and gluten eating girl and don't really want that to change. I also like corn chips but could give them up if it meant not having migranes. I havent really experienced any headaches on Gilenya, well if I have had any they are nothing in comparison to the Betaferon headaches.

So far my Psorasis is only on my scalp and is mild. You cant really see it and maybe I can pass it off as just having nits-I am only joking ! I am getting some relief with Pinetarsol and steroid cream. Thanks again.

Before you bail on G, know that they are finding it to be dose dependent- so if you are on the small side, you may get away with alternate day dosages which allow your white count to do a bit of a rebound.

                  Gilenya

Yes my neuro mentioned that maybe taking a dose for 3 days and then skipping a day may work for me. I am not petite or skinny but apparently everyone metabolises drugs differently so it may work. Just have to wait for next months bloods and then re-evaluate. Here's hoping.
