    Medicare supplements

Some members of this site have said they have a supplement for their Medicare. I'm wondering how you got it. Whenever I call they tell me there is nothing available for people under retirement age.

I don't want a Medicare Advantage Plan. Does anyone know of any options?

    Hello PalmTree

My mom is on disability and she is under retirement age and has supplemental. I thought when she receives the yearly packet she has it included and she decides which one she wants.

Maybe when she first started (years ago) maybe the option was in there. I will ask her and get all the info and let you know.

When did you get on disability?

It all depends on what, if any, plans in your area offer a Medigap plan for people under 65. I have one through Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, but I pay DEARLY for it!

in Oct 2011 during the free enrollment for selecting your drug plan -- Companies were trying out plans for supplement coverage for the under 65 Medicare people so at that time I had a choice for NE to chose a Medicare advantage plan or a plan that you had to ask the various docs if they would accept it--I chose the Advantage plan which was thru BCBS as I figured it was better than nothing so I would have coverage for the 20% not covered by Medicare. (You have to be careful because not every Doc takes the Advantage Plan but mine did).
then when the next year rolled around to chose your coverage the BCBS Advantage plan was no longer available but because I had it I was grandfathered in to the supplement plan for under 65 people and I went back to having original medicare A & B I buy the Med D coverage and I have the supplement that I buy also

I attribute this option for me was available because of the looming Obama care that was coming in 2014 as I said the insurance companies were trying this out and figuring how much they would have to charge people. So I am not sure what is available now. I did not want to go to the CHIPS pool that NE has for the uninsured as that is a regular policy and I already had Medicare (it would have been over $1000 a month years ago when I looked into it).

Google Medicare Supplement under 65 and some options come up

          Good luck
