Hello newly dx with several years of symptoms

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself.

My name is Terri and I was DX'd a few weeks ago after a bout of optic neuritis. Did 5 days of solu medrol (spell?) and now awaiting the completion of all the follow up testing with the neuro to start meds. He is suggesting either Tysabri or Gilenya.

I am 50 yrs old and have been dealing with various symptoms for over 2 years. It is somewhat of a "weird" relief to have a name for the "monster" versus using seizure meds for what was believed to be non-epilepsy bouts.

The final dx was found when a spinal cervical and thorasic MRI and spinal tap were done. Previous to this I had only received several brain MRI's over the past 2 plus years which showed issues including a small menengioma were found along with lesions, but not MS dx confirmed until the new Tests had been done.

I am currently not working due to recovering from the optic and other issues. I have been reading all I can and have found this site very useful.

I love crafts especially sewing, crocheting, and journal/ drawing.

I live in S. California, with the best husband, he is my rock! I just put a note on our front door the says " we will beat this together" and a few little drawings.

Thanks for all those who post, and for all the words of encouragement given. I feel I'm dealing pretty well, with only short periods of depression. I think staying positive is very important, and hope to give help when I can to others....

What a trip MS has been so far!

Welcome Terri! Sorry you had to join the club, but glad you have found a diagnosis and can finally get treatment. I am on Tysabri right now, have been on many others, but love it! Hardly any side effects, and no progression on my MRIs.
I have not tried the pill, but people like that too. You and your doc will work that out.

It is good you have a supportive husband, you will be there for each other.

I wish you well, and check out our message boards as well as our chat rooms!

    Take care

Welcome terrichy! We're glad you found your way here. Your story sounds a bit like mine - 50th Birthday present was a dx after a bout of ON, then on to 5 days of Solumedrol. You are fortunate (if you can call it that ) that sx started 2 years previous and you didn't have to wait that long- I had to wait 10 years! I too found some relief with my dx. Wasn't crazy after all - lol.

So glad you have a supportive husband! I don't know what I'd do without mine. Hope you can navigate your way around MSW and find answers to questions and concerns. We have a medication and treatment forum you might be interested in for other's experiences with Gilenya or Tysabri.

Good luck on you journey and come back often
