    Hello all

I just joined this forum and have yet to read everyone's introductions and posts. About me - I'm a 60 year old male that was diagnosed about a year ago. Still adjusting to the new reality. I used to be an active, athletic adventurer. Not so much any more. I feel very fortunate to have done the things I did while I still could. I'm also very lucky to have a loving and supportive wife and family.

Now, I'm just trying to find a way to live a meaningful life. I will enjoy talking with all of you who are dealing with the same issues.

    Hi Scary

Welcome! glad you joined us and that you have a supportive family

Accepting the 'new reality' takes time...are you on any meds? Being grateful for the experiences you've had is the right attitude, but there's no reason not to continue making new memories .

    Take care

      Welcome Scary

So you're fairly new to your diagnosis. I've just recently been dx'd and even though MS has been thrown around as a possibility for some time now, it's still a shock to hear
I just started BG-12 (tecfidera). Are you currently taking any medications for your MS?

I have found MSWorld to be very helpful. There are many here with varied backgrounds / experiences. Please feel free to ask questions, vent and share.

As Camsue said, there's no reason not to continue making new memories. Have you checked out your local MS chapter? Getting together with other MSers may help you see how they are able to get on with their lives while dealing with MS.

      Be well,
      Bree

Thank you Bree and Camsue for your response!

I am currently doing daily Copaxone injections. It's not that I have much of a problem with needles, but since I don't have much sub-Q fat, it's hard to find a week's rotation of sites. I am very curious about BG 12 and it's possible side effects. Keep us posted.

I am also taking a drug called Amantadine. It was developed for something else, but my neuro said it might help with the crushing fatigue I'm experiencing. Not sure how effective it is, but one thing is certain: You can't consume alcohol while taking it. Not even a sip. Good thing or bad thing?

Vitamins B12, C and D seem to help, especially B12. And I'm trying to exercise as much as possible, which is not a lot.

That's it in a nutshell; I'm getting past the shock and self pity stage and trying make the most of it. As I write this, I keep thinking of more things to say, so please bear with me; it seems to be a nice release.

If anyone out there is interested in scooters, I can offer a lot of advice, because after lots of research, I ended up buying two, one for out doors, and one for tight places and easy transport.

Just getting familiar with this board; so in case this post belongs elsewhere, I'll get it right next time. Thanks for reading!
