Trying to take it all in

Hello all. I have been reading posts for two months and am thankful for you all. I am learning a lot!

I had my first episode beginning in Feb. It lasted over a month. 3 MRIs and lots of tests later, it looks like a case of partial transverse myelitis. I only have one "bright spot" on the brain so far and my neurologists thinks it could have been a one time thing. He will repeat the MRIs in 3 months. I am on gabapentin and it is helping, so that's good.

I have a question about symptoms...I am supposed to be over my attack, but I still have some symptoms. It is normal for some to last a while? Thanks!

I am glad you have come to this board. Welcome. If you are having continual physical problems and your doctors have few answers for you, maybe you should look into your vitamin D, B-12 and magnesium levels. And you could work on your diet. Good luck

Welcome hdmom! It's nice to meet you and so glad you found us I'm not really informed about TM, but others here might be able to be of help. We are a diverse group here, but all willing to help by giving information and support.

As far as lingering symptoms go, each of our course of MS is different, so it's hard to give a definitive answer. Some fade after a time and some stay, but to a lesser degree. Just try to stay healthy as possible by eating healthy food, take your supplements and exercise to your ability

I hope you come back often, share more with us and ask as many questions as you need. I'm hoping too that your flare is also a one time event! That would be a blessing!

Thank you so kindly for the warm welcomes! It is so nice to think I have found new friends through all this.

My doctor did say my vitamin D was almost non existant and my B12 was low, but my neurologist didn't seem concerned. I think I will take supplements anyway. I have already changed my diet to fish, fruits and vegetables and green tea.

He told me that this episode could be a pre-cursor to MS and that I could have that within 5 years, but he also said it's possible I may never have another one. I hope that's the case! I did read that with TM sometimes you don't make a full recovery, so I guess I may just have to adapt to it. Again, thanks so much for all the support!

            worrying already

I am really worried about this summer...it is not even hot yet (80s today) and I am miserable. I feel like a thousand little ants or bugs keep biting me all over and my legs weigh 50 pounds each! Not sure how I will get through July and August. Sigh

              hdmom,

It is a bit of a "planning game", dealing with summers torture. Hopefully, you will get some helpful ideas here.

I suggest you stay in air conditioning, & when you need to be outside, try to limit the time, and try to only be out when it is "least hot" (I.E. mornings, evenings). Aside from that, I would suggest you look into "cooling devices". HOPEFULLY, you will hear about them right here in your thread.
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.

                Thank you, Fishead

I appreciate all the advice I can get! Our 100 year old home does not have air-conditioning. My husband has been installing window units in some of the rooms to help.

My mom bought me some neck wrap things that keep cool too. I will keep watching for more great ideas! Thank you for the support!!
