    uncontrollable shivering.

About 45 minutes after I took my Copaxone last night I started this out of control shivering. Could not stop. It actually make my teeth chatter and hurt my head. My heart rate went up and stayed up until I took Propranolol. My temp went from 96.9 to 99.4. Not too bad, but weird for me.

Has anyone had any strange reactions to Copaxone like this? I'm assuming it was something else, like my thyroid. Things are ok today.

I cannot say I have had this reaction to Copaxone but I get shivering and it is because I get too hot. I cool off and the shivering goes away-

Marti, I had the exact reaction following Copaxone injections on a couple of occassions, in a fetal position with extreme shivering and pain for hours.

My MS doc at the time did not want to report it as an 'adverse event'. I did talk with Copaxone support reps by phone, it was considered by them as 'unrelated' if I remember correctly. It happened about 7yrs ago, I think when the formulation changed to the pre-filled versus the re-constituted formula of Copaxone.

I hope you've recovered and are feeling better.

Thank you for responding. I've noticed several little odd effects lately. Since they killed my thyroid nothing is the same. It's kind of aggravating that the Copax people label it "unrelated". I've been on and off this stuff for 12 years. I'm just about to the point of quitting completely. This really scared me. Now this morning I can't put any weight on one foot. ?????? I don't get it.

          Had bad chills after IPIR

I had the immediate post-injection reaction once, and it included bad chills.

The typical IPIR symptoms started just a minute or two after the shot. First I felt a little sick to my stomach, then I became very lightheaded. My pulse shot up and I broke into a sweat. I felt very anxious, and thought for sure I was dying. After about 10-15 minutes, I felt better.

About 30 minutes after the reaction, I started having intense chills and teeth chattering. They lasted at least an hour. No matter how much clothing I put on, I couldn't get warm. I was so sore the next day from the shaking.

I called Shared Solutions while I was having the chills and asked if they were normal. The nurse said they are not as common as the other symptoms, but some patients report them and they usually last about an hour. I suggested they add it to the list of symptoms because I found the chills worse than the actual IPIR.

I'm surprised Shared Solutions didn't suggest it as a cause. Don't know if what you had would count since it started 45 minutes after your injection. Did your pulse go up before the chills started?

I haven't had an IPIR or the chills since that one episode. I was injecting in a spot not on the map, and thought I found a perfect spot because I didn't feel a thing. Later, in better light, I realized I must have hit a vein. Haven't injected there since.

For some reason I've always had delayed reactions to things like allergy shots etc. I didn't check my heart rate right away, but I think the shivering and the h/r went together. I was really running down the thyroid road at the time... thinking it was a thyroid storm. But it didn't really fit. In fact, it took me awhile to remember that I had taken the shot and that it could be that. I wasn't firing on all cylindars at the time. Thanks for the help.

My neuro finally contacted me about this. She believes I hit a blood vessel and got a concentrated dose of Copaxone all at once. Of course she wants me to keep taking the med, but I think I'm done with it. I've been having too many little weird reactions with it. I've never been convinced about these drugs anyway.

                  uncontrollable teeth chattering shivering

I do Betaserum injections and after taking a look at the message board, I now know the reason for this occurring!! I know MS has very unusual symptoms, but this threw me for a loop! What should I do to avoid this? It probably has only happened maybe 6 to 8 times.

Marti, I did not experience anything similar when I was on Copaxone, BUT I DID with Avonex! It was almost identical to what you are describing. On my second injection it happened, about an hour and a half after my injection, I was doing EXACTLY what you went through. Just thought I would chime in.

Had the exact same reaction twice...but I am the kind of person who just sits it out and never worries about it.

                        Kind of weird tho..

                          me too...

I'm on Betaseron, and it's a known side effect of the Interferons, you get flu like symptoms, so, while taking my injection, or just prior, I also take ibuprofen. Every time.

I think it's overkill, to take it EVERY time, but when I don't - wham! I get chills, and fever. Even after all these years.

BetaPlus nurses also advised to take a NSAID. Ibuprofen is my choice.

I'm on copaxone and have been for a year or two and never had this reaction till tonight. I took my shot with the injected saw a little blood and boom, 15 min later I was shivering like a cold dog. My teeth were rattling, my neck was hurting, lower back, legs shaking, hands shaking. I couldn't get warm.

Never had that happen before. I've had the heart racing, hearing up and shortness of breath reaction when I see blood which I was expecting but nothing like that.

I even went into a hot shower because I thought I had massive chills and was still shaking for 15 min in there. Finally it stopped after a half hour of it.

It was pretty scary and I'm glad I saw a post about it so apologies for bringing up an old one (blame google).

Should I talk to my Nero or possible did I inject in a blood vessel?

It was in my leg towards the top at setting 4.
