    MS "Probation"

Good Afternoon! I hope you all are having a wonderful day! I'm a 38 year old female who developed optic neuritis over the summer. I also had some weird symptoms that I had never experienced. I had massive headaches that would not go away and major nausea and dizziness. I was sent from doctor to doctor in a matter of 2 weeks and I was needless to say scared to death and didn't know what was happening. I had spinal tap bc they thought they might need to drain spinal fluid and they also wanted to check the fluid. Spinal fluid was at normal pressure. The fluid came back normal at this point. Had an MRI on my head and lower back ( leg numbness) A few slight concerns at this point but nothing my neurologist wants to do anything about. He has put me on MS "probation" for the time being. He wants to see me in 6 months and also wants another MRI in a year. From everything I have read about MS it could be many years before I am diagnosed if I even have it. The headaches and nausea have went away, not sure if it is because of what i'm going through or from the stress and i was just so stressed i was making myself sick?!?!
The optical neuritis has not went away. I still have it and a flickering of light in my right eye (looks like a diamond flickering) it's not as bad as it was a few months ago. I can pretty much ignore it. Doc said it could go away in 6 months to a year or possibly never. I have twitches from time to time and my left fingers and hand and arm draw up sometimes ( this is something I'd like to know if anyone else get this) This happens mostly when I'm not using it and without me being aware. I also have the leg numbness. Sometimes loss of memory or what i want to say and can't figure out the word ( but i've always had this lol)
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and give a little history. I'm not sure what the future holds but I'm glad I get to share with people who understand!
    Thanks!!

Welcome Carrie: I know it is hard to wait, but it sounds like you are in good hands as they are monitoring you well. I have had many bouts of ON. I now have severe optic nerve atrophy in both eyes and have trouble seeing. I get the flashes of light often still. I am glad you came to the site, you will find many people in you same situation here as well as others who have been in your shoes at some point and are now diagnosed.

Hope you feel better soon. Please ask any questions you may have, or just come to vent.

    Take care

      Hi,

We all hope that you get off of probation with a clean bill of health and your probation officer releases you soon.

However, while you are waiting you might want to have your Vitamin D level checked and include Vitamin D3 in your daily medicines if your doctor approves.

          cburley,
Welcome to the boards. i am glad to hear you have found us and that your doctors haven't jammed a dmd down your throat.
I am not a doctor but I want to pass on a suggestion. You should get blood tests for Lyme disease, vitamin D, vitamin B-12, magnesium and also your hormones. Being out of 'safe' range for all of these is very common, in the MS community. You may be surprised at what you find out. Good luck

            Trigger thumb

I have also had my index and thumb on my hand not be able to "make a gun" my thumb pulls forward and I am unable to make it go straight up and my index goes in toward my palm like a crooked gun barrel and I cannot straighten it. I noticed it was weird when I went to pick my nose(of all things!) my finger felt so tired! And weak! It was the strangest thing. This has happened on three occasions.
