    Solumedrol nausea advice needed urgently

I am headed into my 3rd day of solumedrol with major nausea. I have completely lost my appetite. Forced my self to eat a boiled egg so I could take my morning meds.

Does anyone have a good remedy? I don't even want to drink water it feels like a lump in my throat.

I will definitely be asking the nurses advice when I get there but if there is something I can take with me to help it would be great.

Maybe a Gravol suppository if you can't swallow a pill or keep it down due to your nausea. Let us know how you are making out.

Bummer! Your doctor should have recommended an OTC acid reducer along with your Solu-Medrol. Most folks seem to do fine with a generic. Right now I'm taking the Target house brand famotidine (which is generic Pepcid) 20 mg twice a day with my Solu-Medrol (day 3 for me today, too), but I've also done well in the past with generic Zantac and Tagament. On rare occasions I've had to crack open the Pepto-Bismol (generic, of course ).

The acid reducer may not help your appetite, and food is going to taste like cardboard for a couple more days, but it may help the nausea and stomach upset. Some folks find that blander food like rice or bread passes through the stomach more peacefully during this time than do protein foods like eggs, meat and cheese, or fruit juices or carbonated beverages. Even Gatorade and chamomile tea upset my stomach while on Solu-Medrol. Some people get some nausea relief from ginger or peppermint tea, but I don't like either one and haven't tried them, so I can't vouch for them.

      Hope you feel better soon.

They gave me a prescription to control the nausea. I can't physically throw up due to a surgery in 2008 on my esophagus, so when my stomach is sick it just churns.

Just can't stomach the thought of eating. We discussed stopping the treatment; but, I am still hoping this is going to work.

My walking is definitely improved - just no energy. Feeling sick doesn't help.

Ugh, the Solumedrol stomach, I feel your pain. The only good thing I can say about the times I've subjected myself to these treatments, is that I am guaranteed to lose 10 pounds.

During my most recent infusions, I took Pepcid and for nutrition drank Glucerna chocolate shakes, 3 x day, with a couple of bananas in between. I am not diabetic, but Solumedrol really messes up blood sugar, so I figured a shake meant for someone with diabetes wouldn't hurt.

If you can, try sleeping propped up a bit, that also helps me. And, even though it's very important to drink buckets of water, don't drink too much of it in the evening, lest it bubble up on you during the night.

Hope you feel better very woon.

            HereIam

thank you for your reply. I thought I was the only one guaranteed to lose weight on steroids, since you hear so much about people getting hungry and gaining weight.

I agree with Redwings they should have had you take a pepcid ac or acid reducer before starting.
Can you see if the dr would prescribe a phenergen suppository in the morning. Maybe you could keep down the acid blocker then.
Just an idea. There is always that other route. They can also add the pepic to the I.V.

                Pepcid

My neuro always prescribes the pepcid for my stomach. I have also found that the more "dirty penny" like my mouth tastes, the worse my nausea becomes.

I discovered that eating lemon heads helps with that. I especially like the chewy lemonhead friends. I am partial to the grape ones. So my husband has to buy a bunch of boxes and I pick out the ones I want.

I don't normally eat a lot of candy and sweets, so it is a nice treat too when I am feeling lousy.

I am usually IV taste sensitive; but I only taste that bad metal when they flush the line.

No nausea this morning; but also no appetite. After a boiled egg, a cheese slice and half a gatorade for the day yesterday, I am pretty sure I need to get something in there.

I have resorted to baby food in the past and that may be what I do again. The lump in my throat is more spasticity (an ongoing problem) than reflux.

Thank you for all of the ideas and support - it has made a difficult week easier.
