Severe Pain-Neuropathy

i have neuropathy in my legs, i was put on Gabapentin july 2011 and have had the doses raised twice because im still having really bad pain which comes and goes. but the past 3 days have been horriable for me, tonight is the worst night i have had with the pain and i cant even deal with it. it is really bad pressure and the only way it is some what tolarible is with the heating pad which i dont think is good for neuropathy...it feels like someone is taking a cold metal bar and crushing my calf ankle and top of my left foot its only on that side. i dont know what to do and dont have my next doc appointment intell april....any suggestions????

Are you sure it isn't spasms caused by spasticity? If so, gabapentin won't help.

First thing in the morning, call to leave a message with your neuro and let the staff person know that you've had severe leg pain for 3 days and would like a call-back before lunchtime to tell you what to do for the pain.

I guess it works on some. I was told gabapentin was for nerve pain and would not help spasms or spasticity. Either way, I'm glad it helped yours

Thats what I was told I have.... I have had ms since 2007 but didnt get dx intell june when I had 3 attacks within 1 month... Pain in my same leg and loss of movement what so ever.... Did some pt and the feeling came back and my neuro put me on gabapentin...the pain came back and I called the office and they called back and told me to up my dose and that should work...but everytime I get it, it seems to be 10x worse then the time before....

How do I know if its spasticity,how can I tell the difference? Are the spasms like charlie horses??

Spasms

They cause severe pain and sometimes you won't even realize its a spasm. Sometimes you will actually feel your muscles contract. It depends. Research spasticity. I'm not good at explaining things . It probably feels if different for a lot. I have it all over my body . My dr knew that's what it was when the lyrica (bad reaction), gabapentin and the other nerve medication he tried me on we're not helping my excruciating pain. He also felt my spasms on the visit he started me on baclofen. Good luck to you. I'm sorry I'm not much help.

you have helped alot thank you!!! the whole time i thought it was my neuropathy but now that im reading about spasticity i think its that because the day that it started hurting bad i thought i threw my lower back out and with the spasms you have lower back pain, im going to call my doctor today....thanks!!!!
