    Rebif & low white blood cell count

    I have been taking Rebif two months. The Dr. said my white blood cell count is low and had me take the test again. Does this mean I will have to get off Rebif?

    It was such a struggle to get use to it, I hate to have to quit.

    I had the same thing happen with Beta. It depends how low it gets. I think it's meant to get a bit lower.

    You probably won't have to stop unless, like me, you develop neutropena.

    The white cell count got back to normal in 6 months, and I'm on Copaxone now.

      @Thinkimjob,

      Thanks for responding!! What is neutropena?

      My WBC was 2.6, they retook it Thursday and haven't heard about that yet.

      How are you liking Copaxone?

        My WBC count went up some, but they did cut my dose in high.

          Hi Sara! This post caught my eye since I'm about to switch to Rebif from Copaxone.

          In a nutshell, neutropenia is when you don't have enough neutrophils (a type of white blood cell) in your blood and as such can't properly fight off bacteria and viruses. The interferon meds (Rebif, Betaseron, etc.) can cause this, and while it's not all that common it is probably why they were concerned when your WBC count was off.

          I'm glad to hear your count went back up some!
