    Acthar......???

Can anyone tell me if medicare covers Acthar gel ?? I've been waiting to get some kind of steroid treatment for my exacerbation for almost a week. Now he wants to try me on the Acthar.

Acthar isn't on the Medicare formulary. That isn't surprising, since a vial of it costs about $30,000. A comparable amount of Solu-Medrol (which is covered by Medicare) costs about $300.

The manufacturer might provide Acthar for you for free. You didn't say why it's taken so long for you to get on some form of treatment for your flare, but your neuro had best get in touch with the manufacturer pretty quickly. Steroids (regardless of the source) are most effective when used within two weeks of the onset of a flare, and the "effectiveness clock" is ticking.

I think they are waiting on Acthar to contact them about it being covered for free but I NEED to get on something NOW. Been trying to contact the office but they will always 'call me back'. Guess I'll just WAIT.

I have Medicare Part D. It covered my Acthar Gel with their approval. Paid only $6.50 for 5 day course.

I'm thinking of taking Acthar - is anyone willing to share their experience using it?
            Thanks!
