My Aunt Debbie is the best person who ever lived. When I was little, she used to always watch me while my Mom and Dad went to work. One day, when she was about 29 years old, she noticed that her vision was getting bad. She said it felt like something was in her eye. She decided to go to the doctor immediately. When she got there, the doctor realized that her blurred vision was the first sign of Multiple Sclerosis, also known as MS. This specific type of MS that she had turned out to be one of the worst cases.
As the years went by, she got worse and worse. She went from walking normally, to walking with a cane, to not walking at all and riding in a wheelchair. One of my most memorable moments with her was when she took me to the Red Sox vs. Yankees game. It really made me feel very happy that she got up the courage to get up, get in her wheelchair and come to the Red Sox game with me. Even though she was in a wheelchair, she still never stopped living a normal life like all of us. She used to take me everywhere because not only did she love me very much, but she also loved the exact same thing as me – sports.
At this Red Sox game, I could see the major league baseball players playing an exciting game. I could also hear the crack of the bat and then the loud snap of the other players catching the ball. I could smell the fresh smell of hot dogs, as the vendors walked passed us. The day I went to this game was the best day of my life, not only because the Red Sox won, but because my aunt was happy, and it made me happy just to see her having a good day.
Little did I know, this is the last baseball game that my aunt and I went to because shortly after this game, my aunt became very sick. She got so sick that she couldn’t do much of anything anymore. Then a couple days after my last visit with her, she died (April 17, 2004, ten days before my fourteenth birthday).
To see her dying was the worst day of my life. In a way though, I was kind of happy for her because I know that she does not have to fight this disease anymore. I know that she is in a better place now up in heaven and I know that she is watching down on me every second of every day.
